Violation Caregiver did not provide frequent, direct contact as evidenced by during lunch, all of the children were sitting at the table eating. CI Watkins observed one child who was in the rear of the classroom sitting under a table. No one noticed this child. The children were nearly done with lunch and CI Watkins informed a teacher that there was a child in the rear of the classroom. The teacher proceeded to retrieve the child and had to request another plate for lunch. Licensing Rule Reference 5 CSR 25-500.182 Child Care Program (1) (A) 3. states: Caregivers shall provide frequent, direct contact so children are not left unobserved on the premises. Violation Caregiver focused upon unacceptable behavior instead of using praise and encouragement of good behavior as evidenced by a caregiver in the preschool 3-5 year old classroom continued to speak harshly to the children as they waited for lunch to be served. Whenever a child would not conform, the staff would aggressively scold the child with a harsh tone. As the children sat quietly at the table waiting patiently for lunch, the children were not praised for sitting quietly and patiently. Licensing Rule Reference 5 CSR 25-500.182 Child Care Program (1) (C) 4. states: Praise and encouragement of good behavior shall be used instead of focusing only upon unacceptable behavior.
