5 CSR 25-500.092(1)(B)2.H.	Blankets or other soft or loose bedding shall not be hung on the sides of cribs or put under the fitted sheet. Only sleep clothing that is designed to keep an infant warm without the possible hazard of covering the head or face may be used during sleep or nap time.

Conclusion Summary
On April 11, 2023, the Office of Childhood received a report alleging that the facility had blankets and nursing pillows draped over a temporary wall in the infant/toddler room. After conducting an investigation, Compliance Inspector (CI) Caylin Mertz has found this allegation to be substantiated based on the following evidence and rule violation: 5 CSR 25-500.092(1)(B)2 H which states "Blankets or other soft or loose bedding shall not be hung on the sides of cribs or put under the fitted sheet. Only sleep clothing that is designed to keep an infant warm without the possible hazard of covering the head or face may be used during sleep or nap time." On April 21, 2023, Compliance Inspector (CI) Caylin Mertz conducted an unannounced inspection at the facility. CI Mertz conducted a walkthrough of the facility with Caregiver Zena Brady. CI Mertz observed one pack and play to have fitted sheets hung on two sides and one pack and play to have a blanket draped over the side. CI Mertz interviewed infant teacher Samantha McIntire. She stated she has completed safe sleep training and does not recall being told blankets and pillow cannot be draped over the side of cribs. She stated hanging pillows and blankets on the side of the cribs is the facilities storage method.
