Compliance Inspector (CI) JD Greer conducted an unannounced investigation of the allegation that mice are present in the facility and have been seen on multiple occasions. The allegation is substantiated based on the following information:
5 CSR 25-500.082(2)(A)9. which states, "The facility shall be clean at all times and free of dirt, insects, spiders, rodents or other pests."
On June 22, 2023, Compliance Inspector (CI) JD Greer interviewed Board President Mary Esselman, who stated they are aware mice have been observed in the facility.
On June 22, 2023, CI Greer interviewed Director Mary Mulkey, who stated there has been in an increase of mice in the building over the last couple months. There were concerns with mice in classrooms Purple 2 and Purple 3.
On June 22, 2023, CI Greer interviewed Caregiver Kejia Dozier, who stated she has seen mice in classroom Purple 2. Caregiver Dozier caught a mouse yesterday, June 21, 2023, in classroom Purple 2. The mouse was released outside. Caregiver Dozier has seen mice at least three times a week for the past month. The times she has seen mice is very brief and they are running through the classroom.
On June 22, 2023, CI Greer interviewed Caregiver Allyshia Johnson stated she saw a mouse in the building about two weeks ago.
On June 22, 2023, CI Greer interviewed Caregiver DeLisha Morgan who stated she saw a mouse on June 20, 2023, and again on June 21, 2023. The mouse on June 20, 2023, was in classroom Purple 1. The mouse on June 21, 2023, was in classroom Green 3.
On July 6, 2023, CI Greer received an email from Compliance Inspector Supervisor (CIS) Crystal Heiser, which stated Public Health Specialist III Jacklyn Skaggs with the Depart of Health Services - City of Kansas City, Missouri stated that an inspector went out last week for the Operation Breakthrough Complaint. The inspector found evidence of mice. A reinspection was issued.
