Conclusion Summary
On August 10, 2023 the Office of Childhood received a report alleging there is one worker in the infant room while other children are sitting at tables and one other worker noted at the front desk not watching the children at the tables. After conducting an investigation, Compliance Inspector (CI) Caylin Mertz has found this allegation to be substantiated based on the following evidence and rule violations: 5 CSR 25-500.112(1)(A) which states "Birth Through Two (2) Years. Groups composed of mixed ages through two (2) years shall have no less than one (1) adult to four (4) children, with no more than eight (8) children in a group;" On August 17, 2023 CI Mertz conducted an unannounced inspection at the facility. A walkthrough of the facility was conducted. CI Mertz observed Caregiver Karen Sax in the infant toddler room with six children ages six weeks old to 1 year old. Director Danielle Ice indicated she had been in ratio in that classroom but had stepped out to talk to a parent. Director Danielle understands the ratio for that classroom is 1:4.
