On February 29, 2024, the Office of Childhood (OOC) received an allegation that: One of the employees were cussing at a kid to, "Get the fuck away." After conducting an investigation, Compliance Inspector (CI) Michelle Honea has found that no staff member stated to "Get the fuck away" to a child however CI Honea witnessed a staff member state to a 3-year-old child to "Shut up and to suck up the crying because she was not going to deal with it." Therefore this allegation is being substantiated based on the following evidence:
5 CSR 25-400.175(1)(C)7., which states: "No discipline technique which is humiliating, threatening, or frightening to children shall be used. Children shall not be shamed, ridiculed, or spoken to harshly, abusively, or with profanity."
On March 5, 2024, CI Honea conducted an unannounced inspection to the facility and interviewed Director Erika Huntsman and caregiver Kaylyn Cash. Director Erika Huntsman stated she had not been told that a teacher cussed at a child nor had she heard any teachers cussing at a child. Director Erika Huntsman stated that behavior will not be tolerated, and all teachers will go through training on age appropriate discipline for children. Kaylyn Cash stated that she was just trying to get Child A to stop crying and that is why she told the child to shut up.
On March 5, 2024, CI Honea walked into the facility and observed teacher Kaylyn Cash telling a crying child (age 3-years-old), "to shut up and to suck up the crying because she was not going to deal with it."
