On March 27, 2024, the Office of Childhood (OOC) received a complaint alleging there are several medicine bottles out on the coffee table in an area where the children walk through to use the bathroom. Compliance Inspector (CI) JD Greer conducted an unannounced investigation of the allegation. The allegation was found to be substantiated based on the following information:
5 CSR 25-400.085 (1)(J) which states, "All flammable liquids, matches, cleaning supplies, poisonous materials, medicines, alcoholic beverages, hazardous personal care items or other hazardous items shall be inaccessible to children."
On April 1, 2024, CI Greer conducted an unannounced walkthrough of the home and observed seven medication bottles on the coffee table in the living. One bottle was a prescription for folic acid. Six bottles were supplements that were not prescription medication.
On April 1, 2024, Compliance Inspector (CI) JD Greer interviewed Care Provider Michelle Solvej, who stated one bottle is a prescription for folic acid. The other six bottles are supplements that she takes. She understands that medicines should be inaccessible to children.
