Compliance Inspector (CI) Jessica Graham investigated the allegation that on Friday, May 10, 2024, around 5:10 PM, an unknown two year old child was unable to be located in her classroom at parent pickup. The child was found in the hallway between the playground exit door and the childcare center doorway. She was out of the classroom by herself for approximately 5 to15 minutes. This allegation is substantiated based on the following:
5 CSR 25-300.060 (1)(A) which states: "Children shall not be left without adult supervision."
On May 13, 2024, caregivers Suzanne Wilson and Emily Medler stated that Child A, age 2-years-old, was misplaced from the classroom group on May 10, 2024. Emily was the classroom teacher along with Kyla Woodall. They had brought their class inside from the playground and when Parent A arrived to pick up Child A, they noticed that she was missing. The class came in from the playground around 5:00pm. Parent A came to pick up Child A at 5:05pm.
On May 28, 2024, Parent A stated that when she arrived to pick up Child A from her classroom, neither caregiver in the room even knew that Child A was missing. The caregivers called out for Child A and that is when they realized that she was not in the room. After looking in other rooms for Child A, caregiver Aeryn came walking in with her from the playground.
Kyla Woodall was the other caregiver in the room with Emily. She stated that they did not do head counts when they arrived back in the classroom from the playground. She did not know that Child A was missing until Parent A arrived to pick her up. Aeryn found her behind the double doors and brought her up to the classroom where her parents were.
