On June 6, 2024, the Office of Childhood (OOC) received an allegation that: n the twos classroom; Ashdown; there is black mold behind the wallpaper by the back door. They still currently have kids in the room. After conducting an investigation, Compliance Inspector (CI) Michelle Honea has found this allegation to be substantiated based on the following evidence:
5 CSR 25-500.082(1)(A): which states, "The premises shall be safe and suitable for the care of children."
On June 14, 2024, CI Honea conducted an unannounced inspection to the facility and interviewed Director Jennifer Kostecki and Assistant Director Sarah Linda Twente. Director Jennifer Kostecki stated on Thursday June 6, 2024, the caregivers were cleaning the classroom and moved the shelf to sweep behind it when the caregivers found the mold on the wall along with the baseboard. Director Jennifer Kostecki stated that the contractor was contacted the same day to check out the problem. Assistant Director Sarah Linda Twente stated that the children were taken from the classroom once the mold was found and did not return to the classroom until it was cleared by Sanitation. The contractor determined that it was only surface mold from the spring rains. The contractor removed the wallpaper in that area and the baseboard, then the contractor used kilz primer on the wall but waited until Sanitation came out to finish the wall. Director Jennifer Kostecki stated that Sanitation came out on Friday June 7, 2024, to inspect the mold issue and the report has cleared the facility from the mold issue.
On June 14, 2024, CI Honea observed the twos classroom to see that the mold had been removed from the wall and the wall / baseboard were both free of mold. CI Honea also reviewed the Sanitation Inspection Report date June 7, 2024, which states the facility does conform with the sanitation guidelines of the MO Department of Health and Senior Services, Section for Child Care Regulation.
