On June 11, 2024 the Office of Childhood (OOC) received a report alleging "The children were outside from 8:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Some children brought water bottles. For those who did not, one Gatorade bottle filled with water was used to squirt water into each child's mouth without touching their mouth." After conducting an investigation, Compliance Inspector (CI) Caylin Mertz has found this allegation to be substantiated based on the following evidence and rule violation:
5 CSR 25-500.202(1)(L) which states "Drinking water shall be located conveniently near playrooms and the playground so children may be free to drink as they wish. Water fountains or individual cups shall be used."
On June 12, 2024 CI Mertz conducted an unannounced inspection and walkthrough at the facility. CI Mertz did not observe individual water cups for each child to drink from. CI Mertz interviewed Managing Member and Director Candy Holsten, Caregiver Leesa Watkins, Caregiver Ashlynn Ogle, Child C (9 years old) and Child D (9 years old). Each of them indicated they use a shared water bottle for children who do not bring water bottles from home rather than using individual cups.

The facility shall notify all staff members of the violations which were substantiated, and specify the actions to be taken by all staff in order to comply with all licensing violations cited. A copy of the memo, letter, or staff meeting agenda shall be submitted to the Office of Childhood.
