Conclusion Summary
On June 12, 2024, the Office of Childhood (OOC) received an allegation that: Chipping paint in the downstairs main building. After conducting an investigation, Compliance Inspector (CI) Michelle Honea has found this allegation to be substantiated based on the following evidence: 5 CSR 25-500.082(2)(A)6., which states: "Walls, ceilings and floors shall be finished with material which can be cleaned easily and shall be free of splinters, cracks and chipping paint. Floor covering shall be in good condition. Lead-free paint shall be used for all painted surfaces." On June 25, 2024, CI Honea conducted an unannounced inspection to the facility and interviewed Director Stephanie Hanna, Preschool Supervisor Bree Baron, Hiring Manager Caleb Floyd. All caregivers interviewed stated that the peeling paint issue had been reported to management and was on the list of repairs. None of the staff members interviewed were aware of the missing sheet rock until the walkthrough of the classroom with CI Honea. All staff interviewed stated that everything would be repaired, and photos of the completed work would be provided to CI Honea and CI Joy Nichols. On June 25, 2024, CI Honea interviewed caregiver Gretchen Buel who stated that a child was angry the other day and peeled the paint / paper off the sheet rock. She reported the issue to Hiring Manager Caleb Floyd. Hiring Manager Caleb Floyd had seen the problem and stated he would have it fixed. On June 25, 2024, CI Honea conducted a walkthrough of the facility and observed the chipped / peeled paint in the 3-year-old classroom along the bottom portion of one of the walls near the baseboards as well as a corner section of the wall near the bathroom that was missing sheetrock.
