On June 18, 2024, the Office of Childhood (OOC) received a report alleging that children are playing on the playground that is infested with sand wasps. Compliance Inspector (CI) JD Greer conducted an unannounced investigation and found the allegation to be substantiated based on the following evidence:
5 CSR 25-500.082(6)(A)4. which states, "The play area shall be safe for children's activities, well-maintained, free of hazards such as poisonous plants, broken glass, rocks or other debris and shall have good drainage."
On June 25, 2024, CI Greer interviewed Director Victoria Voland, Caregiver Regan Burns, Caregiver Alli Rodak, and Caregiver Aubrie Dale. Director Victoria stated they do have sand wasps on the playground. They were not an issue until they got a new shipment of sand, and they believe the eggs were in the sand. Caregiver Regan stated there are a lot of sand wasps on the playground. Caregiver Alli stated the playground does have a lot of sand wasps. Caregiver Aubrie stated there are sand wasps on the playground.
On June 25, 2024, CI Greer attempted to interviewed Parent A (Parent of Child A), Parent B (Parent of Child B), and Parent C (Parent of Child C). CI Greer left messages and did not receive return calls.
