On July 8, 2024, the Office of Childhood (OOC) received an allegation that: Lotion, hand sanitizer and bleach filled spray bottles were within reach of the children. After conducting an investigation, Compliance Inspector (CI) Michelle Honea has found this allegation to be substantiated based on the following evidence:
5 CSR 25-500.082(1)(I) ., which states: "All flammable liquids, matches, cleaning supplies, poisonous materials, medicines, alcoholic beverages, hazardous personal care items or other hazardous items shall be inaccessible to children."
On July 23, 2024, CI Honea conducted an unannounced inspection to the facility and interviewed Director Amber Belcher who stated the following. She has never had an issue with children reaching the lotion, hand sanitizer, and the bleach water. Before the rules changed, children were able to help clean the tables but now everything has to be out of the reach of all children.
On July 23, 2024, CI Honea observed hand sanitizer and bleach filled spray bottles on a shelf in the bathroom out of the reach of children however there were bottles of bleach, hand sanitizer and a bottle of lotion on top of a high counter space in the main area. These items were in the reach of children.
