On August 15, 2024, the Office of Childhood (OOC) received an allegation that the new cubbies in preschool room are very tall, narrow, and heavy and seem like they can easily topple on a child if pushed they are not secured in any way. After conducting an investigation, Compliance Inspector (CI) Jade Stewart-Martin has found this allegation to be substantiated based on the following evidence:
5 CSR 25-500.082(1)(A)., which states: "The premises shall be safe and suitable for the care of children."
On August 28, 2024, CI Stewart-Martin conducted an unannounced inspection and interviewed assistant director Jordan Esch. She stated they got the cubbies approximately two weeks ago. The children have not been playing or climbing on them to her knowledge. The only reason they have not secured them already is because one side of the cubbies backs up to the windows. She stated they would find away to secure them.
On August 28, 2024, CI Stewart-Martin observed and photographed the new cubbies in the preschool room. They were top-heavy, and could have fallen over if a child was to put their weight on the top shelf. CI Stewart-Martin observed two children who were able to reach the top shelf.
