On September 17, 2024, the Office of Childhood (OOC) received an allegation that the provider has unfamiliar faces around children in the facility. The provider's boyfriend and others are around the kids who are not instructors at the facility. After conducting an investigation, Compliance Inspector (CI) Jade Stewart-Martin has found this allegation to be substantiated based on the following evidence:
5 CSR 25-600.020 (1)., which states: "Prior to the employment or presence of a child care staff member in a licensed, regulated, or registered child care facility not exempted by section 210.1080.13, RSMo, the child care provider shall request the results of a criminal background check for such child care staff member from the department."
AND
5 CSR 25-400.105 (1)(P)., which states: "The child care provider shall conduct a Family Care Safety Registry screening prior to employment for any newly hired child care staff member who has a qualifying criminal background check result."
On September 27, 2024, Compliance Inspector (CI) Jade Stewart-Martin conducted an unannounced inspection and interviewed provider Alexis Lewis. Ms. Lewis stated that her fiance Curtis Krocker is present at the facility. He is typically acting as the cook and isn't there for long stretches. Ms. Lewis stated that she had sent off his background information earlier this week. She did not realize that he needed background information since he is typically cooking and not interacting with the kids and is not there for a full day. Ms. Lewis stated that her two assistants Mary Melton and Loni Lewis are the only other people that are present at the facility, and they are listed on the staff sheet and have all appropriate background information.
On September 27, 2024, CI Stewart-Martin observed the staff sheet that listed Mary Melton and Loni Lewis as assistants.
