On May 9, 2025, the Office of Childhood (OOC) received a complaint alleging they have the kids sleep on cots on the ground where the mice run. Compliance Inspector (CI) JD Greer conducted an unannounced investigation and found the allegation to be substantiated based on the following information:
5 CSR 25-500.082(2)(A)9. which states, "The facility shall be clean at all times and free of dirt, insects, spiders, rodents or other pests."
On May15, 2025, CI Greer conducted an unannounced walkthrough of the facility and observed what appeared to be mice droppings in the office area near the director's desk.
On May 15, 2025, CI Greer interviewed Director Wanda Lee, Cook Andricka Evans, Teacher Angie Rathbone, Teacher Ciera Malone, Child B (5 years old), Parent C, and Parent D. Parent C and D are teachers at the facility. Wanda stated they have had an ongoing issue with mice. Their current pest control company is treating for mice, but the problem still exists She last saw a mouse last week in the hallway. Andricka stated she has seen a mouse in the building. It was about a month ago. She believes it was in the hallway. Angie stated she saw a mouse yesterday in her classroom. Before yesterday, the last time she saw a mouse was about a month ago. Ciera stated last week she saw a mouse near the lockers in the preschool classroom. It was during nap time. Parent C, who is also a caregiver, stated she saw a mouse one to two months ago in the back of the classroom during nap time. Parent D stated she last saw a mouse in the building in February. It was in the hallway at the end of the day. Child B stated she saw a mouse during nap time in her classroom. It was near the lockers in the classroom. It was not that long ago.
On June 2, 2025, CI Greer reviewed a Sanitation Inspection Report and observed the inspection was conducted on May 27, 2025, from 13:00 to 13:52. Evidence of insects, spiders, rodents, or pest harborage was noted. The following deficiencies were identified and corrected during the inspection: Mouse droppings were found in the preschool room under cubby shelves and along the wall. Office area in stage had mouse droppings under the window area.
