On July 7, 2025, the Office of Childhood (OOC) received a report alleging that on June 25, 2025, Kayden left the facility and left the PreK class without any supervision. This incident occurred around 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., and there were 9 children ages 4 - 9 years old left without supervision. After conducting an investigation, Compliance Inspector (CI) Curtis West finds the allegation is substantiated. This conclusion is based on the following evidence of a licensing rule violation that occurred at the facility:
5 CSR 25-500.182(1)(A)1., which states "Caregivers shall not leave any child without competent supervision."
AND
5 CSR 25-500.182(1)(A)3., which states "Caregivers shall provide frequent, direct contact so children are not left unobserved on the premises."
AND
5 CSR 25-500.182(1)(A)5., which states "A caregiver shall remain in the room with preschool and school-age children while they are napping or sleeping and shall be able to see and hear them if they have difficulty during napping or when they awaken."
On July 11, 2025, CI West interviewed Provider Anne Jones, Caregiver David Jones, and Caregiver Tina Stanton. Anne stated that on June 25, 2025, she had a scheduled appointment and had to leave the daycare around 1:00 p.m. She returned to the daycare around 2:00 p.m. She noticed that Kayden Walker's vehicle was not parked where it was when she left. She went into the classroom where Kayden was supposed to be. She saw that Kayden was not in the classroom. She saw nine children in the classroom alone, lying on their cots for nap time. She asked David and Tina if they knew where Kayden was, but they didn't know.
David and Tina provided consistent information. They stated that when Anne returned, she asked if anyone knew where Kayden was. They didn't know that Kayden had left the building. Kayden left nine children in her room, taking a nap without adult supervision.
On July 23, 2025, CI West interviewed Kayden Walker, who stated that she had an emergency come up on July 23, 2025. She had to leave the daycare early. She left around 1:30 p.m. She left the children alone without adult supervision.
