Conclusion Summary
On August 5, 2025, the Office of Childhood (OOC) received an allegation of there is mold inside several classrooms that children use daily. On August 13, 2025, Compliance Inspector (CI) Christy Hughes conducted an unannounced inspection of the facility and found the allegation to be substantiated based on the following information. 5 CSR 25-500.082(1)(A) which states: "The premises shall be safe and suitable for the care of children." On August 13, 2025, Compliance Inspector (CI) Christy Hughes conducted in person interviews with director Tina Bueker and assistant director Shastine Snow Woosley. Tina stated that the mold was brought to her attention the week of August 4, 2025. One of the staff members had left a window open without her knowledge over the weekend. As of Friday August 8, 2025, the children were moved out of the affected areas. The children from the toddler room were relocated in a classroom approved for infant toddlers. Some children are relocated to another Cadence facility in Chesterfield until they get it all cleared up. Shastine stated that all children were moved out of the classroom that were affected by the mold and were relocated as of Monday August 11, 2025. On August 13, 2025, CI Hughes conducted an interview via phone with Abby Rush, director of the Cadence Academy in Chesterfield. Abby stated that she is currently housing some of the students from the Eureka school until the mold situation is taken care of.. They have been at the center in Chesterfield since Monday August 11, 2025. On August 18, 2025, CI Hughes received an email from Tina Bueker, director with the health and sanitation. The following report conducted on August 13, 2025 was attached showing the facility is now in compliance. The reported stated the following: "The above facility has been inspected and conforms with the sanitation requirements of the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. The following deficiencies were identified and corrected during the inspection: General Comments: According to the provider, Tina Bueker, a small amount of mold was observed by staff on a shelf in their Giraffes Room. This was after a window was left open over the, while the heat index was over 110 degrees F and the A/C was running, causing mold to develop in that area. The provider also stated that ServePro had visited their facility to remediate the mild that was observed. While conditions in the building were cool, the ambient air seemed a little humid; however, no mold was observed anywhere in the facility by inspector. Inspector recommended having whole-facility dehumidifier installed."
