On May 21, 2026, the Office of Childhood (OOC) received an anonymous allegation that there was mold in the ice container of the facility's freezer and within the refrigerator. There were holes in the ceiling that leak when it rains. There was a hole above registered agent Mica'Lan Hampton's desk that required a bucket to catch the rainwater. After conducting an investigation, Compliance Inspector (CI) Patrick O'Malley has found this allegation to be substantiated based on the following evidence:
5 CSR 25-500.082(2)(A)5., which states: "The facility shall be dry, temperature controlled, well-ventilated and free of drafts. Children shall not be overheated or chilled. The temperature of the rooms shall be no less than sixty-eight degrees Fahrenheit (68F) and no more than eighty-five degrees Fahrenheit (85F) when measured two feet (2') from the floor."
On June 1, 2026, CI O'Malley conducted an unannounced inspection of the facility. CI O'Malley observed a plastic wastebasket in the first-floor hallway, catching water dripping from the ceiling. CI O'Malley also observed a plastic box on a second-floor desk, catching water dripping from the ceiling. CI O'Malley observed the interiors of four refrigerators in the facility's kitchen. CI O'Malley did not observe any mold in any of the refrigerators or freezers. CI O'Malley conducted interviews with director Gwendolyn "Gwen" Wrice and registered agent Mica'Lan "Mica" Hampton.
Registered agent Mica'Lan "Mica" Hampton stated that the facility's license had been amended in October 2025 to include the second floor in child care. The second floor's ceiling had been leaking in one place since the winter. Gwen was aware of the leak and was working on getting it fixed. Mica denied that there was mold in any of the facility's refrigerators.
Director Gwendolyn "Gwen" Wrice affirmed that the second floor opened for child care in October 2025. Gwen affirmed that there was a small leak from the roof onto the second floor. Gwen stated that there was also an air conditioning unit that was leaking onto the first-floor hallway. There were buckets beneath both leaks to catch the water. Gwen denied that there was mold in any of the facility's refrigerators.
